IATF 16949 – Lead Auditor with AIAG supplier auditor certification – #299
Context
This exclusive 5-day training program, offered in partnership by AIAG and Plexus, is the most advanced auditor training available for automotive suppliers.
The IATF 16949:2016 standard places greater emphasis on the qualification of first- and second-party auditors. This training is designed to prepare first- and second-party auditors to meet the new requirements of IATF 16949:2016 and the requirements of Stellantis, Ford Motor Co., and General Motors Co. This is the only IATF 16949:2016 training that combines AIAG supplier auditor certification and IATF 16949 lead auditor training.
In accordance with the competence requirements for internal and supplier auditors defined in sections 7.2.3 and 7.2.4 of IATF 16949, participants are encouraged to complete the AIAG Core Tools Self-Assessment (CTSA) to evaluate their mastery of the core tools before taking the auditor training.

- Current audit program managers seeking an in-depth review of Rules 6th and second-party auditing, aligned with third-party auditor development process.
Prerequisites
Participants must have practical knowledge of core tools and experience in auditing. Although there is no mandatory verification upon registration for the training, a lack of practical knowledge and expertise in this area of competence may have a negative impact on participation in the training and the final grade.
Prepare for the training by completing a self-study course. This activity is designed to familiarise you with ISO 9001:2015 and IATF 16949:2016 standards, as well as guidelines for auditing management systems. It will be sent to participants prior to their session.
Pedagogy
Two elements are involved in the success of this training:
- Continuous assessment of participants’ attitudes, auditing ability, performance as team members in the role play and communication skills.
- A written examination covering the content of IATF 16949: 2016 and the application of audit principles and practices based on IATF 16949: 2016.
The minimum score required to pass the exam is 70%. If the candidate does not reach this score, he/she may, depending on his/her score:
- be admitted to a re-take exam (score > or = 60%).
- be admitted to a re-enrolment in the course (score < 60%).
Evaluation mode
A written examination covering the content of IATF 16949:2016 and the application of audit principles and practices based on IATF 16949:2016.
75% of the exam mark is based on questions that require developed answers, testing the understanding of the audit process and the application of IATF 16949:2016. The remainder of the exam mark is based on multiple-choice, true/false or short-answer questions.
Note: Passing this training/exam does not qualify you to conduct third-party audits.
The final examination assesses the following areas of competence (as defined in clause 7.2.3 of the IATF): 7.2.3a, 7.2.3b, 7.2.3c, 7.2.3d, 7.2.3e.
