AIAG IATF 16949 Lead Auditor – AIAG Supplier Auditor Certification Renewal – #499
Context
This two-day training course allows participants who have successfully completed training course #299 AIAG IATF 16949:2016 Lead Auditor with AIAG supplier auditor certification to renew their certification for an additional three-year period. This training takes a practical approach to using the automotive process approach described in the 6th edition of the Certification Audit Rules to obtain and maintain IATF recognition, in order to improve the robustness of your auditing skills and your internal/supplier audit program. It also helps those implementing IATF 16949 to stay informed and up to date with changes in audit practice. The main objectives are as follows:
- Apply auditing skills in accordance with the latest IATF requirements for the audit process and auditor competence
- Link the typical activities of an internal audit program to the requirements of the 6th edition of the certification rules for obtaining and maintaining IATF recognition, and understand how these impact your audit program
- Understand the automotive program updates to ensure you have the latest information to assist you in your external and internal audits
- Prepare for the Lead Auditor and Supplier Auditor recertification exam, which will renew your certification for the next three years (a new certificate will be issued after passing the recertification exam)
This training is intended for those who have already successfully completed AIAG Lead Auditor and/or Supplier Auditor training and assumes a good knowledge of the IATF standard and a basic understanding of the audit process.
Objectives
- Understand third-party certification requirements (obtaining and maintaining) in accordance with the 6th edition of the IATF certification rules and ISO/IEC 17021-1.
- Understand the requirements of the 6th edition of the IATF certification rules that can be used, in conjunction with the ISO 19011 guidelines, to improve your internal audit program and your supplier audit program.
- Apply the automotive process approach to audit planning.
- Apply the automotive process approach to conduct QMS audits at all levels of the organization: management, process drivers, and personnel working in customer-oriented and support processes.
- Assess the effective implementation of the requirements of ISO 9001:2015 and IATF 16949:2016.
- Evaluate the effective implementation of automotive industry core tools and specific requirements of automotive industry core tools and specific customer requirements.
- Describe the findings and results of the audit.
- Evaluate the acceptability and effectiveness of corrective actions to address QMS nonconformities.
- Apply audit interview techniques and communication skills during an audit simulation.
- Renew auditor certification (after the certificate expires after 3 years) for individuals who have completed AIAG Lead Auditor or Supplier Auditor certification training.
Recommanded for
Individuals who have completed AIAG Lead Auditor or Supplier Auditor certification training and wish to renew their auditor certification after their three-year certificate has expired.
Prerequisites
Have successfully completed the AIAG IATF 16949:2016 Lead Auditor training course or the AIAG Certified Supplier Auditor training course within the last three years.
Pedagogy
Exercises in identifying audit trails and simulating audits.
Evaluation mode
A written examination covering the content of IATF 16949:2016 and the application of audit principles and practices based on IATF 16949:2016.
75% of the exam score is based on questions that require developed answers that test the understanding of the audit process and the application of the IATF 16949:2016 standard. The remainder of the exam score is based on multiple-choice, true/false, or short-answer questions.
Note: Passing this training/exam does not qualify you to conduct third-party audits.
The final exam assesses the following areas of competence (as defined in clause 7.2.3 of the IATF): 7.2.3a, 7.2.3b, 7.2.3c, 7.2.3d, 7.2.3e.
Those who pass the final exam will receive an AIAG IATF 16949:2016 Supplier Auditor Certification for first and second-party audits.

- The three pillars of audit planning: customer risk, performance trends, and process criticality
- Development of audit plans
- Preparation of an individual audit
- Basic understanding of the automotive process approach: agility, understanding of the current QMS, focus on customer risk and performance, PDCA cycles, and the automotive process approach
- Conducting the audit at the management level
- Conducting the audit with process drivers
Day 2
- Conducting audit trails in customer-oriented and support processes
- Reporting audit findings and results
- Assessing the acceptability of corrective actions
- Audit simulation exercise
- Structure of the lead auditor and supplier auditor exam and practical exercises
