CQI-8 – Layered Process Audit (LPA): practice on site – #259
Context
CQI-8 Layered Process Audit (LPA) is a structured shop-floor audit method derived from the AIAG standard and required by several OEMs such as Stellantis and General Motors.
Its objective is to ensure compliance of critical processes by involving different management levels in regular audits consisting of short, frequent, and standardized checks carried out directly on the shop floor. This enables rapid detection of deviations and strengthens operational discipline.
This approach promotes a culture of continuous improvement and team accountability.

Pedagogy
The training is structured around concept presentations followed by group exercises on the key elements of LPA audits:
- Implementing LPA audits
- Organizing audits
- Designing audit checklists
- Setting up the monitoring system
Before the training:
Preparation is carried out between the trainer and a company representative to:
- Become familiar with the company’s organization
- Identify the different audit “layers” to be implemented
- Define the area that will be audited during the training
During the training:
Participants:
- Define the future organization of their LPA audit approach
- Develop audit checklists for a selected area
- Perform audits on the shop floor (one or several workstations)
- Adjust and improve their initial checklist based on first experience
Evaluation mode
- Multiple-choice questionnaire and trainer validation of the participant’s ability to apply the concepts and tools through practical exercises
Course materials

Participant file containing the presentations delivered during the training and the exercise materials.
- Digital training materials are made available to trainees a few days before the start of the training course on our LMS platform.
