An Introduction to CSR According to ISO 26000 – #260
Context
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is part of a global context marked by growing challenges related to sustainable development, the ecological transition, and heightened societal expectations. The ISO 26000 standard provides an international framework for integrating these concerns into organizations’ strategies and practices, though it is not certifiable. It is based on the idea that performance is no longer limited to economic results but also includes Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) impacts. Faced with pressure from stakeholders (customers, employees, investors, government agencies, associations, consumers, etc.), companies are encouraged to adopt more transparent and responsible practices. ISO 26000 structures this approach around seven fundamental principles and seven core questions, promoting a comprehensive and consistent approach. In this context, CSR becomes a strategic lever for creating sustainable value and differentiation. A study by France Stratégie showed that companies committed to CSR achieve a 13% higher performance gain than those that are not.
