FOD (Foreign Object Debris/Damage) – Securing day-to-day practices – #770
Context
The presence of foreign objects (FOD) in aeronautical environments represents a major risk to the safety of aircraft, personnel and infrastructure.
Training in FOD prevention is mandatory for aeronautical organisations subject to quality standards (EN 9100), or regulated (EASA Part 145), as it contributes directly to aircraft safety and compliance. It is also required by customers and external auditors, as part of a risk management approach.
To meet the requirements of aeronautical standards, it is therefore essential to raise staff awareness of the importance of FOD prevention in their daily working environment, to guarantee the quality of operations, prevent incidents and thus reinforce the safety culture.
Objectives
- Understand what FOD is and where it comes from
- Be aware of the typical consequences/damage associated with FODs
- Understand your role in preventing FOD: know what you need to do to prevent FOD in your work area
- Identify the requirements of standard EN 9146
- Know how to define areas at risk from FOD
Duration
- 0.5 days
- In-house: optional additional 0.5 day on site to define FOD risk areas
Recommanded for
- Any person (managers and operational staff) with access to production or assembly lines: quality, production, maintenance. Supplier Quality
Prerequisites
- None.
Specific operating conditions for remote sessions
- Have a PC equipped with a microphone, webcam and, if possible, a headset for greater comfort. Note: To blur or hide the view from behind, background screens are available in Zoom or Teams.
- A good Internet connection, tested before the session.
- Locate in a quiet, isolated area; switch to “not available” status in Teams; close your email access and mute your phone to avoid distraction during the session.
- To avoid off-topic discussions during the session, participants from the same organisation should not be grouped together in the same room, but rather at their own desks. Virtual sub-groups will be set up specifically for the exercises, which will also allow for mixed groups to be created.
- The webcam and microphone must be open during remote qualification/certification exams. It may also be necessary for us to check that you are the only one in the room.
- We ask that you connect at least 5 minutes before the beginning of the session.
Pedagogy
- The training alternates between presentations of the applicable requirements and practical examples.
- The trainer advises each trainee on his or her practices and postures.
- For in-house training, this course can be customised with examples and instructions specific to the company.
Evaluation mode
- Knowledge test (MCQ)
Course materials
- Participant file containing the presentations delivered during the training and the exercise materials.
