CQI-17 – Special ProcessĀ – Electronic Assembly Manufacturing Soldering System Assessment: practice on site – #257
Context
The CQI-17 (Soldering System Assessment) standard, developed by the Automotive Industry Action Group (AIAG), is designed to evaluate and improve soldering processes in the automotive industry, including wave, reflow, selective, and manual soldering.
Aligned with IATF 16949 and specific customer requirements, it applies to all suppliers using soldering in electronic assemblies, aiming to minimise process failures, ensure the reliability, mechanical and electrical integrity of soldered joints, and guarantee compliance with quality, safety, and performance expectations.
As part of continuous improvement for special processes, CQI-17 provides a framework for self-assessment covering process control, equipment capability and maintenance, critical parameter management, personnel competence, and inspection effectiveness, enabling organizations to assess their operations, review supplier performance, and develop actionable plans to achieve full compliance.
